MAPPLEWELL
We started small in 1999 and currently number 15 (male and
female) with
about a dozen turning up to each monthly get-together. We meet at 2pm, on
a
Wednesday , every four weeks to accommodate the staffing rota of our
enthusiastic "leader". The dates can be obtained from the Village Hall.
The
light and airy room we use is in Mapplewell and Staincross Village Hall,
which also houses the library, and gives us privacy for our very lively
discussions and sharing of opinions (but none of us are opinionated!)
The group has a very "local" feel and pre-meeting
discussions can be heard in the nearby shops, butchers, etc.
We prefer to all read and discuss the same title, and the sharing
of resources with other groups in the area has helped with this. The
titles
we have covered so far have been wide ranging - indeed, comments within
the
group have indicated how much we have enjoyed being encouraged to
consider
books and authors outside our usual individual choice: Lemony Snicket
and
Philip Pullman for example.
Last year we obtained two small grants and organised two Author
Events, again with a local feel. Other Readers Groups and members of the
wider community were invited and were entertained by guest speakers
Deric
Longden and Aileen Armitage and at the second event, Ian Clayton and Mel
Dyke.
We look forward to Readers Group Wednesdays with a great deal of
anticipation.
