GOLDTHORPE
The group meets in the Library, on the first Thursday of the month from
10.00 to 11.00 am, although it often runs on longer. Usually under
ten members are present at any meeting, but this makes for an intimate
and very sociable experience. Nevertheless, new members are always
welcome. Tea and coffee is available.
Meetings usually start with a discussion of the book(s) agreed by
members to have been read the previous month, although this could be a
poem, or any kind of non-fiction, bu a novel is the norm.
All members are encouraged to have a say, but no one person 'holds
forth' too long to the detriment of others. It does not matter
whether a member has a serious point to make or whether a lighter note
is sounded - the group has respect for every point of view and the style
in which it is delivered.
Members then have the opportunity to discuss any other books they may
have read during the previous month.
Other 'reading grou' activities may be introeduced - a quiz, a clip from
a video, an internet item, even a piece of music if it enhances the
moment, but everyone has an enjoyable session in one way or another.
The aim of the group is to promote the pleasure of reading so please
join us if you share this goal and have the time to participate.
